Study spaces at the Humanities Library
The Humanities Library offers study spaces for both individual study and group work. It also features a quiet reading room, a special reading room for fragile materials, and dedicated facilities such as book lockers for researchers and a media studio for audio- and video recordings.
The study spaces are located across several floors and include both open-plan areas and more secluded spaces. Some spaces and rooms must be booked in advance, such as group study rooms, the reading studio and the media studio, whilst other spaces are available for use without booking.
The quiet reading room and the special reading room are intended for focused work. The special reading room is used for studying fragile and valuable materials.
Guidelines for a pleasant study environment
Remember that as a visitor, you help make the library a pleasant place for everyone. By keeping your voice at a reasonable volume, using headphones when listening to audio, not eating food and sorting your waste for recycling, we can make the library a good study environment for everyone.
Bookable study spaces
The Humanities Library has eight bookable study spaces. They are located on floor eight, upstairs from the large reading room.
The seats are numbered 1 – 8, they are screened and equipped with an office chair and a table, both can be raised and lowered.
Book a space
A session is two hours long and you can book an unlimited number of sessions up to two weeks in advance. You will receive a confirmation email when the booking is completed. Please have the confirmation email with you if you need to show it.
Cancel if you are unable to attend
Many people want to use the library's study spaces. Therefore, cancel your place if you do not need to use it. You can find the information on how to cancel your booking in the confirmation email.
Group and individual study rooms
The library has nine group study rooms and two individual study rooms spread across different floors. The library has both stairs and a lift.

Reading studio
The reading studio is on floor 6. The computer has a larger screen (32 inches), which can make it easier to use SuperNova magnification software.
Collect the key to the reading studio from the information desk in the entrance hall.
Reading studios at our libraries
A reading studio is a resource room equipped with technical aids for students with reading impairments such as dyslexia, visual impairment or other disabilities.
Silent reading room
There is a quiet reading room on floor 7.
Please remember to switch off the sound on your phone and not to eat in the quiet reading room.
Special reading room
On floor 7, there is a special reading room designed for studying the university library’s most fragile and valuable materials. Here, you can read manuscripts, special collections and rare items.

Book locker for researchers
The Humanities Library has a number of book lockers intended for storage of materials that can only be borrowed for in-house use. In connection with the book lockers there are also a number of workspaces for researchers.
Media studio for audio- and video recordings
You can book a media studio at the Humanities Library to use the audio and video recordings from the University Library and the National Library.
Book the room
You can book the media studio two hours at a time and 14 days in advance. You need a GU card or a library card which you can find at My Loans to access the room.
Requested materials are signed out at the information desk of the Humanities Library, together with the key to the media studio.
Piano room
The division for music and drama has a room with a digital piano. You can book the room two hours per day and 14 days in advance. Headphones can be borrowed at the divisions's information desk or at the information desk by the entrance of the Humanities Library.
