Open access publishing agreements
Researchers at the University of Gothenburg can avoid publication fees or get discounts on them through the university library's agreements with a number of publishers.

How to use the discounts
The corresponding author who submits the manuscript must be affiliated with the University of Gothenburg. If you are several corresponding authors, the person affiliated with the university should submit the article.
About article processing charge (APC)
When publishing in an open-access journal, you often have to pay a publication fee to the publisher. The publication fee is called APC, article processing charge.
Researchers at the University of Gothenburg can publish open access without cost or with a discount on the publication fee through the University Library’s agreement with several publishers. The publishing fee is paid by the Gothenburg University Library. As for the costs for colour pages and figures etcetera, these are usually not covered by the APC charge.

Publish free of charge
The agreement gives the right to unlimited publishing of open access articles in all journals from ACS. Articles accepted for publication after January 1, 2024 are covered by the agreement.
To make use of the agreement
As a corresponding author, you shall state your affiliation to the University of Gothenburg and use your email address from the University of Gothenburg when you submit an article for publication.
Publish free of charge
Authors affiliated to the University of Gothenburg can publish with open access in most of the publisher’s journals (hybrid and pure open access) at no extra cost. Articles accepted for publication as of January 1, 2026, or later are included in the agreement.
To make use of the agreement
As a corresponding author, you shall state your affiliation to the University of Gothenburg and use your email address from the University of Gothenburg when you submit an article for publication.
Publish free of charge
Authors affiliated to the University of Gothenburg can publish with open access in some of APS hybrid journals pure open access journals at no extra cost. This applies to articles accepted for publication as of January 1, 2023.
To make use of the agreement
As a corresponding author, you shall state your affiliation to the University of Gothenburg and use your email address from the University of Gothenburg when you submit an article for publication.
Publish open access, but additional charges apply
Researchers at the University of Gothenburg can publish open access in six of the publisher's journals. However, ASM charges a fee per page (‘page charges’). These are not covered by the agreement, and as an author, you need to secure funding. Articles accepted for publication after January 1, 2025, are covered by the agreement.

Authors affiliated to the University of Gothenburg can publish free of charge in all serial publications from the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
To make use of the agreement
As a corresponding author, you shall state your affiliation to the University of Gothenburg and use your email address from the University of Gothenburg when you submit an article for publication. Authors are automatically identified by the email address domain. CC-BY is the first choice when publishing, but the author can choose CC license options.
B
Publish free of charge
The agreement provides for unlimited open access publication in fifteen anthropology journals from Berghahn Journals. Articles accepted for publication after 1 January 2023 are covered by the agreement.

As a corresponding author, you shall state your affiliation to the University of Gothenburg and use your email address from the University of Gothenburg when you submit an article for publication.
Publish free of charge
The agreement with Springer Nature fully open access journals lets researchers at the University of Gothenburg to publish themselves in journals from BioMed Central (BMC) at no cost.
To make use of the agreement
As a corresponding author, you shall state your affiliation to the University of Gothenburg and use your email address from the University of Gothenburg when you submit an article for publication.
The agreement gives the right to unlimited publishing of open access articles in all journals from Bioscientifica. Articles accepted for publication after January 1, 2025, are covered by the agreement.
To make use of the agreement
As a corresponding author, you shall state your affiliation to the University of Gothenburg and use your email address from the University of Gothenburg when you submit an article for publication.
Publish free of charge
The agreement allows for unlimited publication of open access articles in all hybrid and pure OA journals from the publisher, and applies to articles submitted as of January 1st, 2021. In addition, authors receive a 20% discount on the publication cost when they publish books with open access.

The agreement gives the right to unlimited publishing of open access articles in the publisher’s journals and its imprint Policy Press. Articles submitted for publication after January 1, 2024 are covered by the agreement.

Publish free of charge
Through the library's agreement with BMJ, authors at the University of Gothenburg can publish free of charge in BMJ journals. The agreement covers both hybrid journals and pure OA journals.

Publish free of charge
All authors at the University of Gothenburg can publish with Open Access for free in journals from Cambridge University Press (CUP). The agreement provide unlimited publishing of openly available articles in both hybrid journals and pure OA journals. The journal series Cambridge Prisms and Research Directions are also included in the agreement.

The agreement with Copernicus applies to the corresponding author affiliated with the University of Gothenburg. The University Library will check their affiliation before payment is approved.

Researchers at the University of Gothenburg can publish Open Access without charge in hybrid journals and fully open journals from De Gruyter.
To make use of the agreement

Publish with a discount
Through the Gothenburg University Library's membership in Dove Medical Press, all authors at the University of Gothenburg receive a 5% discount on the publication fee.

The agreement gives the right to unlimited publishing of open access articles in the journal eLife. Articles submitted for publication after April 1, 2024 are covered by the agreement. Publication costs are covered by Swedish research funders.

Publish free of charge
Authors (corresponding author) at the University of Gothenburg can publish free of charge in journals from Oxford University Press. The agreement covers both hybrid journals and pure OA journals.
To make use of the agreement
- As a corresponding author, you shall state your affiliation to the University of Gothenburg and use your email address from the University of Gothenburg when you submit an article for publication.
- Once the article has been accepted for publication, the author receives an e-mail with login details and a link to the publishers "Author Services site”.
- On the Manuscript Licenses page, choose which type of license the article should be published under. Select an Open Access license (eg CC BY) to approve the terms of the license.
- You will come to the Publishing Charges for Your Article page with a subheading called "Open Access Prepayment Account" and a drop-down menu.
- Select Swedish Universities (Bibsam affiliated) on the menu.
- University Library verifies that the article belongs to a researcher affiliated to the University of Gothenburg and then the article is published Open Access.

Publish free of charge
The Gothenburg University Library has prepaid publication fees at PeerJ. This allows researchers at the University of Gothenburg to publish their articles at PeerJ at no cost.

Publish free of charge
The University of Gothenburg is participating in a consortium agreement for The Royal Society of Chemistry, where the publishing fees are included in the cost for the agreement. Corresponding authors at GU can publish Open Access in all hybrid journals and in Nanoscale Advances and RSC Advances, the publisher's fully OA journals.
To make use of the agreement
- As a corresponding author, you shall state your affiliation to the University of Gothenburg and use your email address from the University of Gothenburg when you submit an article for publication.
- The publisher will inform that the cost is already included in the agreement when they accept an article for publishing. The article is instantly available freely at the time of publishing.
Publish free of charge
The agreement provides access to unlimited publication with open access in the publisher's hybrid journals.
The publisher uses a script management system SOAP, SAGE Open Access Portal, which handles all articles.
To make use of the agreement for hybrid journals
As a corresponding author, you shall state your affiliation to the University of Gothenburg and use your email address from the University of Gothenburg when you submit an article for publication.
When an article has been accepted for publication, the author receives an email informing that the article can be published with open access through the agreement with Bibsam. The author is asked to go to SOAP.

All authors at the University of Gothenburg receive a 10% discount on the APC for the journal Science Advances.

The agreement with Springer Nature grants the right to publish with open access in all of the publisher’s open access journals, as well as the majority of its hybrid journals. Articles accepted for publication after January 1, 2025, are included in the agreement.

Publish free of charge
The agreement with Taylor & Francis is a national consortium agreement that allows authors affiliated to the University of Gothenburg to publish their articles with instant open access in Taylor & Francis' hybrid journals (Open Select) and open access journals.
Research articles and review articles are included in the agreement. These are usually categorized as "Article", "Research Article", "Review" or "Review Article", but depending on the journal and subject area, other names may occur.
Taylor & Francis journals generally offer two Creative Commons licenses: CC-BY and CC-BY-NC-ND.

Publish free of charge
The agreement with Wiley provides access to publish with open access in Wiley's hybrid journals and fully open titles as well as Hindawis fully open titles. Publication within the agreement applies to articles accepted by the publisher after 1/1 2020.
Article types included under the agreement are ”Original article”, ”Primary research article” or ”Review article”. Other article types are excluded.
